The Drinking Water Revision Project for Erbaa Townhall - Industrial Zone

The aim of the project: To enhance the capacity of the system that is not able to meet the water demand, and to increase the efficiency in the system

Erbaa Belediyesi Sanayi Bölgesi İçme Suyu Revizyon Projesi

This system has been installed in Erbaa province, the city of Tokat, Turkey.

Application Date:11.03.2019

   As a result of the meetings conducted with the Townhall of Erbaa Province (will be referred as Townhall), a revision project has been prepared for 1 water well, 1 pump station and 1 water distribution reservoir. The aim of the project is to enhance the capacity of the system that is not able to meet the water demand, and also to increase the efficiency in the system.  It is aimed that the distribution of the water to the people living in the proximity without any interruption and doing this with the minimum operating cost that is possible.

   The water that is collected from the well is transferred into the water reservoir. By the help of the water supply pump it is transferred into the water distribution reservoir in Seyrantepe. And the water is then transferred into the water grid and distributed to the residents.

Field Analysis

  Before the revision, the system was consisted of 1 submersiblzce pump and 1 supply station pump in the supply station. To be able to monitor the state of the system and obtain the data more accurately, Koru1000 devices has been installed in August 2018.

The obtained data from the field of application are as follows:

   In the well;

  • Underwater level (for obtaining static and dynamic water levels)
  • Exit Waterflow(To determine the amount of water drawn out of the well)
  • Exit pressure(To determine the delivery head)
  • Energy (Voltages, currents, power)

   In the pump station (For each pump);

  • Input pressure (To determine the Water supply station NPSH (Net Positive Suction Head))
  • Exit pressure (To determine the delivery head for the supply pump)
  • Exit flow (The amount of water pumped by the supply pump)
  • Energy (Voltages, currents, power)

   Distribution reservoir;

  • Water level in the reservoir
  • Exit waterflow

  With the obtained data, the specific capacity of the well, the hydraulic efficiency of the submersible and the water supply pumps, and the water consumption have been monitored.

 No revisions have been made in the distribution reservoir and the conduction lines. The scheme for the new system is given in Figure.

The 100/8  pump in the well has been replaced with a 160/5A stainless steel pump. And the centrifuge pump in the pump station has been replaced by 2 CR90/4 pumps.

Revision

   The comparison chart for before/after the revision is given in Table 1. It is observed that the water capacity has been increased while the power consumption is decreased.

Capacity

   The well pumps and supply pumps are assumed to be working for 24 hours in 365 days and the prices were calculated by the price of the day (11.03.2019) which is 0.61 TL/kWh. Table 2 shows the water production capacities of the wells and the energy consumptions.

  In the well, the water production capacity has been increased by 16.8% while the electricity consumption has been decreased by 14.47%.  In the pump station the water production capacity has increased by 42.62% and the energy consumption has been decreased by 9%.

Distribution Reservoir

  The exit waterflow of the Seyrantepe Distribution reservoir is shown in Figure 3The average waterflow that is fed to the grid is 152 m³/h and the annual water demand is 1,331,520.00 m³.

Capacity Analysis

   The annual water demand of Seyrantepe Distribution reservoir is 1,331,520.00 m³. Before the revision, the performance of the well and the supply station in meeting the water demand before and after the revision is given in Table 3.

   The system was unable to fill the water reservoir by itself, so the additional sources were needed to fill the reservoir. In the new system, the reservoir is filled without the need of another pump.

Cost of Water Demand

   In order to meet the annual demand of Seyrantepe Distribution Reservoir, annual cost of the electricity has been calculated both for before and after the revision. The cost of electricity is given in Table 4, and as it is seen, a yearly 182,109.89 Liras of saving has been achieved for this system. And also the need of the additional water sources has been eliminated since the system has started to sustain itself completely.

Energy Saving

   In the water well and pump supply station, the unit cost of the water is given in Table 5. The unit cost is given in kWh. When the unit costs are compared, an energy saving of 24% in the well, and an energy saving of 37% in the supply station has been achieved.

Conclusion

With the system the institution now has an advanced automation system and acquired the ability to monitor and manage the water management system remotely with Koru1000 New Generation Water management systems. The pumps are operated at the correct point in the energy efficiency curves, so that the overconsumption and the possible malfunctioning have been eliminated.
